Comments: testing your memory on knowing your address

I have been living in Texas since 1994. I rarely get back to NY, as most of my close relatives reside in Cleveland, OH (son), Menlo Park, CA (daughter) and Boston (brother). Each year I reflect more upon my past and recognize what a wonderful childhood I had. We were blessed growing up together in a close-knit community. It was a wonderfully supportive environment. I wish everyone health and happiness!

School Story:

I received my BS, RN from SUNY Downstate, Brooklyn, NY, where I met my husband, David. We were married when we both graduated in 1974 and had our first of 4 children the following year. I worked as nurse for the 8 years which my husband completed his medical Residencies at Kings County Hospital (1974-1978), Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (1978-1980) and Yale New Haven Hospital (1980-1982). My husband was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1980 and we werevery fortunate that he lived 26 years, after a rocky 2 year battle with cardiac injury following his radiation therapy for treatment of his cancer. I enjoyed 25 years as a stay at home mom, watching my kids grow up. I returned to the profession of nursing in 2006 after my husband passed away and have really enjoyed working full time as a staff nurse at an acute care hospital in Fort Worth. I recently list my daughter, Kim, to AML ( Acute Myeloid Leukemia). It was a devastating loss and it has changed my life forever. Her husband,Ben, organized a "Team Kim", with Team in Teaining, with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and we have 63 active partipants who will be running a half marathon on October 19th at the Nike Women's Half Marathon in San Francisco. I will be one of the 63 runners on Team Kim. We hope to raise $150,000 and have a grant named in Kim's honor for readeach at Stanford University, specifically for AML targeted gene therapy. I am up to 3-4 miles 3-4 times a week. I know I can get to the 13.1 miles level by October. My daughter, Kim, was an avid runner and she always tried to get me to join her.

I am in NY, attending my neice's (Jennie Davidow) graduation from medical school. It has been a long time since I returned to NY. She is graduating from NY Medical College (Valhalla?). All is well in my life. Still working full time as an RN in Med-Surg and have 7 grandchildren and counting. My youngest has 2 years left in his orthopedic surgery Residency program ( at Cleveland Clinic) and then 1 year Fellowship and then I can retire!!!' I am atil helping him and his family financially and really don't mind. What are Moms for, anyway. Just kidding! Hope all is well with you
